All Star Weekend
January 27th, 2008
Well it's the All Star weekend. A time of rest for most of the Maple Leafs. Except for Tomas Kaberle of coarse.
Tomas Kaberle was the only Leaf to crack the All Star games team roster. He did us proud! Kaberle hit 8 out of his 9 shots, earning him (and the East) the win in the shooting accuracy part of the skills competition. Now several questions are coming up from his shocking yet not so shocking win.
Will Kaberle be shooting more often now? I'm sure it will be encouraged by head coach Paul Maurice and the rest of the team. Personally I don't think Kaberle will be shooting anymore than before. Everyone has also encouraged him to shoot more, but he has always considered himself more of a playmaker than sniper. This is probably why he played so well with McCabe as his defensive partner, especially on the powerplay.
Will this increase Tomas' exposure within the league? Winning the accuracy competition may bring more attention to the veteran defenseman. At a time where the Leafs may be rebuilding shortly, this will help make interim GM Cliff Fletcher happy as it would make Kaberle easier to shop around.
