Back to the Regular Season

January 28th, 2008

In the All Star game Tomas Kaberle ended up playing 16:32 in the game and ended up with a -1 rating for plus-minus.

Now that the All Star weekend is done, it's time for the Maple Leafs to start focusing on the regular season again.

The Leafs just like last year are struggling with injuries as well as struggling in the team rankings. At this point it may even be a good thing to call up some youth from the Marlies to give them some NHL experience and to fill in for the injuries.

With the injuries starting to rack up, Jiri Tlusky is said to be starting on the 1st line with Mats Sundin and Nik Antroprov tomorrow against the Blues. Carlo Colaiacovo is also said to be starting on the blue line tomorrow. Colaiacovowent down re-aggravating a previous knee injury about a month ago against the Flyers.

Paul Maurice even under the pressure is looking forward to the upcoming games. Last year, even with a long list of injuries were able to pull off a good winning record in the second half of the season. Maybe the same success could happen this year. Even if the team can string together a winning streak, it may be too little too late. When Cliff Fletcher took over as interim GM, he stated within 2 weeks him and his staff should have an idea of what will happen at the trade deadline, it has been 1 week.

It is expected that sooner than later, Cliff Fletcher will be approaching Sundin asking him to waive his no trade clause. This is expected to be a very touching subject. Sundin has repeatedly stated and firmly stated that he wishes to remain in Toronto and retire as a Toronto Maple Leaf. If Sundin refuses to waive his no trade clause, hopefully the Leafs will be able to resign him for a few more years.

Tomorrow the Leafs face the Blues at the ACC, we will see if the All Star break has been good or bad to the teams.
