Leafs rebound against Montreal
By Chris | February 8, 2008
The Leafs were able to down the Habs in what happened to be an action packed game. Out of the gate both teams demonstrated passion and the desire to win the game.
Finally the team got some production out of some individuals which have been lacking. Darcy Tucker potted 2 in the back of the net. Kyle Wellwood and Kris Newbury both also helped the team score in the 4-2 win.
Despite the teams effort Cliff Fletcher remains strong on his goal, to bring Toronto a Cup worthy team. He stated regardless in an interview recently that it does not matter how many points the Leafs finish with this year or how close they are to the playoffs. Having the team just barely scraping by into the playoffs is not acceptable. Toronto needs a team which has a chance at the cup. This is what Fletcher wants and will not settle for any less.
This is good news. Even if Toronto does make the playoffs, he still wants to make the team better. The Maple Leafs at least have some youth developing with the big team right now. Tlusty, Earl, Newbury and Stralman are the names that come to mind.
Fletcher has said that he has already had several phone calls from other GM's to ask about players on the Leafs. With the trade deadline approaching we may see some much needed changes sooner than later.
