Maple Leafs vs. The Rangers - Period 1
By Allan Craig | December 29, 2007
It's nice to see the Leafs come out and play a good physical game. We see near the beginning of the game that Sean Avery is up to his normal antics. After a battle for the puck, Tomas Kaberle's stick got up near his face. Avery immediately grabbed his face as if his nose was broken drawing a penalty. Later on we see him battle Kaberle again and drop him to the ice and we're lucky that he went into the boards and didn't get injured.
We saw a good fight between Wade Belak and Colton Orr. Belak destroyed Orr until near the end when Orr got a few punches in. The Leafs caught an unlucky break and Belak received an extra penalty for instigating, which the Leafs killed.
In the end of the period, the Leafs walk away down 2-0. Both goals, Raycroft should have had. The first goal trickled in between his pad and post. The second came after Raycroft let out a rebound which he should have controlled, then he was unable to get back into position.
Going into the 2nd, I am eager to see if Sean Avery and Darcy Tucker will go a round and give the fans something to cheer for!
