Trade Deadline has Come and Gone

February 26th, 2008

The Leafs lineup will indeed look a little different, but there have been no additions to the lineup. The Maple Leafs traded away Hal Gill, Wade Belak and Chad Kilger, all for draft picks.

The first trade was announced this morning around 11am. Wade Belak was dealt for a 5th round 2008 draft pick from the Florida Panthers. Oddly enough the Leafs next game is against the Panthers on Wednesday night. Let's hope that the Leafs don't miss Belaks' toughness.

The second trade was Hal Gill to the Penguins. Toronto picked up a 2nd and 5th round draft pick for Gill. This was arguably the best deadline trade for the Leafs for this year.

Finally near the deadline it was announced that Chad Kilger will be leaving and going to the Panthers for a 3rd round pick.

Although Fletcher was unable to attain any prospects he was at least able to gather some draft picks, hopefully scouting will be able to work with the picks and bring some young talent into Toronto.

Fletcher has hinted that the team may be rebuilding around goalie Vesa Toskala and forward Nik Antropov.
